If you are looking for a great way to use those apples from apple picking or a way to get some fruit into your kids, this is the best and easiest apple crisp recipe ever!
6-8 apples- McIntosh, Golden Delicious (my favorite) or any other variety, peeled and diced into 1/2-inch pieces or thin slices-however you prefer- be creative!
juice from 1/2 lemon,
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground or freshly grated nutmeg
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/2 cup flour or fine graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup brown sugar - light or dark
1/2 stick butter (cold)- no substitutes
1 pint of your favorite ice cream (vanilla is always a hit)
optional- caramel for drizzling, whipped cream, nilla wafers
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. In a 9x12 baking dish or pie plate, combine apples, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg and granulated sugar. In a small bowl, mix flour or crumbs, brown sugar and butter (cut into small dice- you can grate it also, cold from the fridge works best!) together- use a fork and/or your fingers, working until even, small crumbles form. Sprinkle this topping evenly over apples and bake 15 - 20 mins until apples are tender and the topping turns golden brown. Top each serving of apple crisp with drizzles of caramel and a scoop of ice cream, add a nilla wafer on the side.. and if you'd like to put it over the top some whipped cream as well!
Enjoy
